A visit to General Santos City is not complete without visiting the General Santos Fishport Complex (Brgy. Tambler, General Santos City). We woke up pretty much early so we can arrive there much earlier. The half asleep me and my parter dragged our ass up and off we went to the fishport! General Santos City is famous for one good reason (Aside from being the hometown of the pound for pound boxer of the world, Pakyaw); their fishport complex is the place where they offload their freshly catch "GIANT TUNAS" and other seafood. I am completely in awe after seeing tons and tons and tons of GIGANTIC TUNAS! Well, GENSAN is the Tuna Capital of the Philippines, afterall.
Beautiful sunrise at pier 1. GenSan Fishport Complex.
The complex is modern and very huge. One cannot just enter the fishport without prior arrangements. You need to log your names first at the Administration building.
One must wear boots when entering the Market 1 & 2 conforming to the strict strict strict health and sanitation chuchuchu chienes rules. Boots rental is 20.00Php
Caan you imagine? Carrying50-70kg or more tuna on one shoulder? Definitely not an easy job, but Id love to try carrying one. you know, I get pretty weird sometimes.
The fishermens and other workers in the complex are used with tourists so so they usually gladly pose with their big catch!when you start flicking your camera.
I haven't seen so much huge yellowfin tunas in my life. Fantastic! Spot the photobomber. bohooo
Good quality tunas are for exports while the not so good ones are for local consumption. For me, they look equally the same. There's this some kind of a tube where in they'd stick it into the fish to test its quality. I don't eat fish but for the fish lovers out there READ: SASHIMI! Why don't you bring your wasabi and soysauce with you when visiting the fishport complex and buy a whole tuna? :D
Be sure to arrive before 6.30am or earlier so you can catch the HUGE TUNA catches.
USUAL TRICYCLE FARE FROM GENSAN PROPER TO BRGY. TAMBLER vv. IS 15.00PHP
